|
||
Howe Gelb: Sandman Series # 7 - Sonisk Postkort (double album) 2003
Disc 1: Disc 2: 73 + 71
minutes. |
||
Notes: The Sandman Series is a string of cd-r's with authorized live bootleg recordings done by fans etc. distributed for free through the socalled "cd-r tree" at Howe Gelb's homepage www.giantsand.com - and should not be traded outside the "tree". The shows at Café Mozart in the summer of 2002 were where Under Byen members appeared as guest musicians. Mostly Nils Gröndahl, but Myrtha Wolf, Katrine Stochholm, Thorbjørn Krogshede and Anders Stochholm also played with Howe there over the summer. These recordings more or less documents the shaping of the as-of-then unreleased "The Listener" album. The band take part in about half the songs on cd 1 and most the songs on cd 2 in one way or another. At the September show Katrine Stochholm did a half hour solo show on piano before Howe went on stage. Those recordings are not on these discs, though.
|
||
Howe Gelb: Upside Down Home 2002 (album) 2003
1. Spun 50 min. |
||
Notes: There are no real sleeve notes for this little release of outtakes and leftovers put out on Howe Gelb's own Ow Om label. Still, some of it seems to have been recorded during "The Listener" recording sessions with Under Byen. Like for instance: the instrumentation (percussion and violin etc.) on track 3 sounds much like the Aarhus tracks on "The Listener" and Henriette seems to be humming along to the song.
|
||
Howe Gelb: The Listener's Coffee Companion (ep) 2004
1. Blood
Orange Video (cd-rom
part of disc): 24 min. |
||
Notes: Morten, Katrine, Nils, Thorbjørn and Anders play on tracks 1 and 3. On the Electronic Press Kit video Howe Gelb talks about working on "The Listener" and how he met and worked with Under Byen. The sleeve notes correct the errors from "The Listener" booklet - where among others Morten Larsen went uncredited by mistake.
|
||
Antophones: Antophones (demo album) 2004

Failure 40 minutes. |

as Peter Laugesen, Jørgen Leth, Pia Juul and Ursula Andkjær

Please note that the information below is only based on my own knowledge and might be wrong in places. I haven't attended all Under Byen shows so I can't now for sure.
Under
Byen |
Early song
mentioned in various interviews and the source of the band's name. Seems
to be pre-"Puma EP" or at least pre-"Kyst". No record
of it having being played live, but of course it might have been the case
at the earliest shows. |

Kulturnat '99 in the Town Hall park in Aarhus on May 28, 1999. Two ten-minute

"Gå ind i lyset" and "Syng hvide nat" on "Kyst"

Coversongs played live
Hvor er man henne? Originally
featured on the lp "Sukkerhjerte Hjertesuk" from 1971 by Danish
troubadour Povl Dissing. Lyrics are by Danish poet Halfdan Rasmussen (and
cover art by Ib Spang Olsen).
|
|
|
Kalundborgbåden Originally featured on the album "Nærmest Lykkelig" from 1988 by rockband TV-2 - who formed the record label 'Pladeselskabet Have A Cigar' which released Under Byen's first album in 1999. The song was played as a surprise homage at the small "Kyst" launch party by an Under Byen band consisting of just half the members. It later found its way into the band's live set on some occasions.
|
|
|
Sleeping My Day Away Originally featured on the album "No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims" from 1989 by rockband D:A:D (a.k.a. Disneyland After Dark). The premiere of this cover song at Vega in Copenhagen in 2003 was introduced as being a song with "international hit potential" that Under Byen had learned in order to be ready for their "international possibly intergalactic career abroad". A touch of irony, so the cover might be a bit of a "spoof". They played it again at the Spot 09 Festival opening ceremony. The original song is one of the biggest hits in Denmark from the 1980s and is a kind of "evergreen" today.

Totmacher A German
traditional that dates back to the first part of the 20th century. Under
Byen recorded it for the play "Totmacher" which was put on stage
by Von
Baden at Entréscenen in Aarhus in November 2003 where it was
played (pre-recorded) as intro and intermission music. The band later
premiered it live in October 2003 at Malersaal in Hamburg, Germany. It
was later played at Voxhall the following December and the German shows
on the European tour of spring 2004.

Kyst (music video) 1999
Made around
the release of Kyst, but never used or shown anywhere. Maybe because at
the time there was no music program on Danish television to show music
videos on. Features the band on the flat beaches of Western Jutland.
