BOOTOGRAPHY

Updated July 25, 2007.

Please note
Kindly do not e-mail the webmaster of this site asking for copies of these bootlegs. This page is purely made to provide information of what live recordings that are known so far. Use the Under Byen Forum to get in touch with fellow fans. Many of the recordings below are already out there in circulation. Should the webmaster get hold of new bootlegs they will find their way out there (if permitted by the band, of course).

So how do you get hold of these bootlegs?
Shows are available through cd-r-trading among fans and as shared bit-torrent downloads. For other trading sources than the Under Byen Forum you could check out a forum such as Svingninger (Danish).
Some shows are also shared on the Peer2Peer network eMule (in zipped flac-format). You can download the eMule Plus program here and many other places.
For bit-torrent downloads try a site like Dimeadozen.org . Threads there will also be mentioned on the Under Byen Forum.
Another possibility is to access the Under Byen ftp sharing server. You can read about that here.

You can also check the Concerts page for notes on what shows were recorded.

Recording policy
Under Byen have taken a positive stand on bootlegging and allow taping. Even directly from the soundboard. It would be a good idea to e-mail the band (via their manager Jesper Majdall) beforehand and ask - or try to get hold of them (probably also Jesper in this case) at the venue before the show. Their e-mail-addresses are at the official website. In some rare cases they reserve the right to say no to the spreading of a show (either due to bad sound or maybe if it contains too many new songs).

And finally - two things to remember:
1) Never pay for bootlegs! They should always be traded for free.
2) You haven't truly experienced Under Byen until you have also heard their brilliant studio albums and of course seen them live yourself. ;-)

Quality: This is a great sounding soundboard recording. Instrument and vocals levels are good. Sound does distort in a very few places in the loudest vocal parts, but that seems to be mostly because of the bullit mic that Henriette uses on some songs to distort her voice.

Quality: CD 1 contains the songs that were broadcast on Danish national radio two times during January of 2006 - as well as an interview broadcast in a radio shows earlier on the first broadcast day. The sound of the live show couldn't be better. The interview has some radio static.
CD 2 contains audience recordings of the songs left out of the radio broadcast - plus the song "Af samme stof som stof" once more. These audience recordings are quite good quality and the crowd is silent. Interview from the second broadcast of the Jazzhouse show also has a bit of radio static. The sound of "Jeg er din mand" from the Leonard Cohen tribute show is good. The audience recording of Henriette's performance at the Udenfor Sæsonen show at the Spot 11 Festival was made in a large concert hall and is pretty decent. These four songs were with Ensemble MidtVest and a band of three extra musicians (including Anders Stochholm). the Lars HUG cover song "Henover himlen" is from his 1984 album "City Slang" - based on the poetry of Søren Ulrik Thomsen.

Quality: Good audience recording. Recorded from balcony in left side of venue with mic suspended from a crossing structure over the audience. Crowd is talkative in places, but as the mic is not close to them, no loud talking disturbs the recording. An energetic performance at this "punk" venue.

Quality: Good soundboard recording. Sound level causes a little distortion in a very few places (on the loudest parts of the vocals). It was also around this time that Henriette started using the bullit microphone which distorts the vocals. The setlist on cover art also mentions the song sometimes known as "Lill-Babs", but it wasn't played.

Quality: This recording is a good soundboard. The broadcast itself was live and direct, but had some technical problems. Luckily it was recorded in-house by the band's sound engineer as well - and this is that recording (the sound is much better). The intro, outro and interview were taken from the broadcast, though.

Quality: A good radio and soundboard recording. Under Byen's live broadcast from Berlin was cut short to make room for an interview with Saybia - in the middle of "Legesag". Hence the last tracks of the show was sourced from a soundboard recording done by the sound engineer.
The selected tracks from the Indra gig are from a recording where the minidisc recorder malfunctioned. These tracks are the only ones that made it through in one piece.

Quality: Voxhall sounds levels are a bit too loud and hence a little too much bass and drums. But nothing that ruins the recording. Spot 09 is an audience recording from a large indoor music hall. Not close to speakers, but with a quiet audience. These recordings might not have perfect sound, but are still very fine and any lacks in that department are made up for by it being new and rare songs. Fricke's amusing introduction has bad sound, though.

Quality: Clean sound. Seems to be a small/medium venue and recorded not directly at the speakers. A bit "box-like" sound compared to the best soundboard bootlegs, but it is a very good audience recording which of course captures the energy at bit better - as well as the audience (which is quiet during the songs).

Quality: Very good soundboard recording. Has some 'room' or 'air' in the sound despite it being recorded through the mixer (must be some kind of 'reverb'). Clear and clean sound.

Quality: Spot 08 is a medium audience bootleg done in front of a stage in a foyer. It contains a superb version of "Siamesisk". Miljøfestivalen had medium stage sound and it was outside on a slightly windy day. The full recording is not included due to it being "windy". But it contains the rare "Batteri Generator" which has only been played live very few times.

Newspaper headline reads:
"Sensuous rock under the white wings".
The picture is from the band's
1998 performance at Univers.

Quality: Univers 2000 is an audience recording done at a rather large outdoor venue - probably 10 meters from the stage. Talkative crowd in places as well as plastic beerglasses being stepped on. But music is clearly audible despite these irritable elements that pop up in a few places.
Among the musical highlights are a 12 minute version of "Kyst" (that ends in a disco-like thing) and the rarely recorded cover song "Kalundborgbåden".

Quality: Really good radio recordings. The Popshop interview is sourced from tape and hence doesn't not have crystal clear sound.

Notes: The Sandman Series is a string of cd-r's with authorized live bootleg recordings done by fans etc. distributed for free through the socalled "cd-r tree" at Howe Gelb's homepage www.giantsand.com. At Howe Gelb's small "workshop" shows at Café Mozart in the summer of 2002 Under Byen members appeared as guest musicians. Mostly Nils Gröndahl, but Myrtha Wolf, Katrine Stochholm, Thorbjørn Krogshede and Anders Stochholm also played with Howe there over the summer. These recordings more or less documents the shaping of the as-of-then unreleased "The Listener" album. The band take part in about half the songs on cd 1 and most the songs on cd 2 in one way or another. At the September show Katrine Stochholm did a half hour solo show on piano before Howe went on stage. Those recordings are not on these discs, though.

Quality: Musikcaféen is a brilliant soundboard. Café Mozart has different qualities ranging from good audience to good soundboard - and sometimes a mix of the two. Levels are good. Still, vocals may be a little loud in a few places on the Café Mozart recordings.
