On August 26th 2011 Sound Of Perpetual Astonishment celebrated its 5th anniversary with a very special birthday bash at the venue HeadQuarters in Aarhus, Denmark. Friends from near and far came to join the fun. Marzipan Marzipan brought some new songs all the way from Berlin and played a (technically challenged) duet with Resident Tourist - "Warm Storm" by Giant Sand which is part of the seed that started SOPA way back. Agata & Me also presented the audience with beautiful new songs. Indeed so did KURvE, who on this night performed as an acoustic guitar and violin duo. And just as exciting and beautiful as you would expect from a full band KURvE show. A.K. Hansn played two sets. One was semi-acoustic (and featured a guest appearance by Resident Tourist) and one was indeed very electric (and featured classic Vildensky songs from the Hansn 'back catalogue', as fresh as ever). Leonard Davies rounded off the live music part of the evening. The down'n'dirty rocker from Fallen Men surprised everybody with a pure disco set consisting of old classics in new attire. Last song of the night was Davies together with Marzipan Marzipan doing their own rendition of "You're Gonna Lose That Girl" by The Beatles. Then DJ Bjarke Svendsen (of the venue Atlas) took over and made sure everyone was dancing the night away. So did I Like This Wind, who this time didn't play, but came from Tenerife and joined in.
Now that was a proper way to celebrate a birthday!
The next day Marzipan Marzipan (with Resident Tourist) joined the amazing Frisk Frugt at the venue Atlas for another show. And Capt. Daydream dj'ed there.
Yes, indeed the proper way...
Special thanks to Michael and Martin for documenting the evening and Don Saund for stepping to do the sound. Also big thanks to Sabina and Fenja for the help and to HeadQuarters for having us. And last
but not least thanks to the great audience and eternal gratitude to all the musicians who made this evening something really special.
